Oceana selected as one of the best recordings of 2007

The Deutsche Grammophon disc Oceana, released in July, has been selected as one of the best recordings of 2007 by several reviewers and gift guides. Among these are Amazon.com, which featured the disc in its "Best of the Year 2007"; Newsday (New York), which named it one of the Top 10 CDs or live performances of 2007; and John Schaefer of New York's WNYC radio, who included Oceana in "An Eclectic (Y)ear: Best of 2007." The recording also was featured in the gift guides of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The recording also was featured in Best of 2007 lists in The New Yorker, Time Out New York and The Bay Area Reporter, and the gift guides of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

The recording, part of a series of recordings from Deutsche Grammophon of Golijov's works, features the composition of the same name, written for orchestra, three guitars, harp and voice, performed by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus under Robert Spano, and the Brazilian/jazz singer Luciana Souza. Two other works are also featured on the album: Tenebrae, performed by the Kronos Quartet for whom the string quartet version of the work was written, and Three Songs for Soprano and Orchestra performed by Dawn Upshaw, who premiered the work in 2002, joined here by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Spano.
